Project Power: Newt Burn

I had a chance to art direct All the powers which the characters would develop when taking the power pill (all except for Art's power at the end), which was an amazing experience. Here’s a concept sequence showing Newt immolating, very much staying away from the “Flame on!” superhero effect, and going for a very grounded “combusting/boiling from the inside” based on science kinda vibe. Reference of fried eggs were used in this concept. In fact, I suggested to vfx to do element shoots of fried eggs which were used in some vfx shots of bubbling under the skin! Also, I wanted to get across that there was an immense amount of sweat and possibly mucus/gel secretion to prevent skin damage, playing with a translucent skin feel. Again, really had to imagine how the body might allow the creation of enough heat to create fire, while still trying to stay alive (barely!).
